Dear Reader,
Spring has sprung, and it’s time to do some Spring cleaning for your mind!
I am seeing a lot of people at this time of year racing around, busier than ever, trying to focus on even more things. The start of the year is behind us, we have completed another Winter (here in the Northern Hemisphere) and we are primed to be active! The weather is nicer, traveling is easier…
But I have to wonder what is going on in people’s minds as we close out March. What about you, Dear Reader, what’s going on in your mind? Are you feeling like you need to do more, earn more, be more? Are you focusing on taxes? Do you feel like you got off to a slow start for the year, and now you need to make up for it?
On the other hand, maybe you are filled with excitement for all that lies ahead, or joy at the turning of the season, or maybe all kinds of creative ideas you would love to birth.
Either way, there may be a lot of thoughts flying around between your ears, and maybe even thought patterns – rote, habitual thinking – that no longer serves you and your goals.
This is the perfect time to step back and check in! Even if you are busy with fantastic projects right now, it can’t hurt to devote a day to stepping back, observing your thinking and cleaning your inner house!
How about a walk on the beach? A day trip to a small town where you can wander the streets, sit in a cafe and be out of your usual environment? However you do it, take a little time to slow down, change the scenery, and focus on your thinking itself.
Meditation is also a great way to do this. There are many different forms, but I prefer the simple, silent kind myself. Watch your thoughts, and your thought patterns, and ask yourself:
“Are all these thoughts serving me?”
Then see if you can soften your focus, your thinking, and your whole mindset – and start to let some of the unhelpful thoughts go. Are you still holding anger or resentment toward someone? Spring clean it! Let it go, because it’s probably not helping you. Try it for a day, or an hour, or even a minute.
Why should you? No reason needed, it’s just Spring cleaning time for the mind!
Here’s another good one to Spring clean: Any thought that starts with “I should ____.” Zap! Out with the rest of the mental rubbish. Time to get clear on what you really want to do, not what you feel you should do, or what others say you should do. Let’s promote original, creative thinking as we turn the corner into Spring.
Go to it and enjoy – you don’t even need a supply of gloves and trash bags!
I honor your loving heart,
John
