Dear Reader,
Intuition is the tool that helped me change my life the fastest, at a time when I was struggling to figure my life out. It is a powerful way of discerning what you really want in life, and how you can make the most of the gifts you have to offer.
So today on the blog, I want to get back to basics.
Here are three basic facts about intuition that I hope will inspire and guide you to delve deeper into your own intuitive abilities – and change your life for the better.
Everyone is intuitive
That’s right, everyone – including you! One of the most common misconceptions about intuition is that either you have it or you don’t. Not true. All humans have it, as one of many natural abilities, including the ability to love, to remember and to think.
This is good news! It means that your intuition is ready, willing and able, right now, to go to work for you. All you need to do is ask, and cultivate your ability to listen to your intuitive voice.
Here’s your action step: ask yourself when in the past you feel that your intuition has worked well for you. Maybe it helped you meet the right person at the right time, find the right book to read – or maybe it saved your life. Remember as many of those times as you can. Then choose one to focus on. Take a few moments to recall, in as much detail as possible, what it felt like and how you experienced it. That experience holds a clue about how you best access your intuition.
You can develop your intuition
Oh yes you can! Intuitive knowing is more like a muscle than a fixed quality, such as eye color. The more you use it, and use it in the proper way, the more frequently you can access it – and the more accurate you become with it.
Another myth that often gets in the way here is the idea that you have a fixed amount of intuition, and you have no control over it. So you are either doomed to randomly get a hunch now and then about who is calling when the phone rings, or you are one of those people with the intuitive valve stuck wide open and you were seeing dead people when you were six years old.
Most of us, myself included, are not at one of those extremes; we just need to practice to develop our ability. So here’s an action step to go with this basic fact: start expecting your intuition to work for you, and look for opportunities to practice. I suggest that you start small. What would be the best route for you to take to get to work tomorrow morning? Who is going to be calling the next time your phone rings? What would be a good book for you to start reading this week? You can build your intuitive muscles with simple questions like these.
Everyone experiences their intuition differently
Your intuition might take a different form than your spouse’s, or your child’s, or your best friend’s. You might mainly receive your intuitive guidance through a feeling in some part of your body, or through a flash of insight, or through a visual image, or through a sound. I once received intuitive insight while driving, in the form of the sound (in my head) of crunching metal, that allowed me to avoid getting hit by a car that drove through a red light.
Just as we are unique, individual human beings in so many other ways, we are also unique with our intuition. And your intuition might come to you in different forms at different times, in different situations, and at different points in your life.
Here’s your action step: be willing to receive your intuition in any form that may come to you. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. And avoid holding any expectation about how it might look for you, or how you might experience it. Then just pay attention; see how it actually does work for you. Notice it, and write it down if you need to.
There you have it – three basic facts about intuition, and three action steps for you to take, dear reader. If you do take these steps, you’ll be well on your way to accessing and successfully using your intuition in your life.
Give it a try; play with it – and let me know how it goes!
I honor your loving heart,
John
