Dear Reader,
I have a good feeling about this new year. A really good feeling. That might sound surprising to you, given all the apparent tumult and chaos we have encountered in the past couple of years, not just here in the United States, but around the world.
I do see this chaos serving a bigger purpose, for good, leading to growth and wisdom.
Yes, it has been messy, and may continue to be so.
Yes, it has been painful, and may continue to be so.
Growing pains can be that way. If you think about the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly, the caterpillar’s structures in its cocoon break down and basically turn to soup before reforming as a butterfly. That’s chaos, right?!
Naturally, we don’t want our human transformation to be that messy. We’d like it to be easier.
And the good news is – it can be.
I believe this will be a year of profound positive change, both for people individually and for society as a whole.
But what’s the secret? How can we manage an easeful, wise, compassionate transformation to our own next level, without wreaking more havoc than we already have?
The key lies within each of us.
I am talking about your inner life, your own awareness of who you are, how you operate, where you come from and why you are here. Think about it; we as humans often know very little about what lies within us. As a result, we are left unable to bring forth all our inner beauty and ability in tangible ways, to share with a world that desperately needs it.
Why might that be?
We are usually not taught early on how to go within, how to inquire into our own nature, and how to use the tools we might find inside.
Nor are we encouraged to do so. Over the past couple of centuries, our focus has shifted to place more value on the external world, on the intellect, on science, on evidence. Don’t get me wrong, this grand exploration has been necessary, and crucial for our evolution. But it has unfolded to the detriment of the inner life, which has been devalued and cut off from our access in alarming ways.
That’s gotta stop.
Now, more than ever, we need to be able to access our rich inner lives, and generously share our hidden gifts with the world. Far from being selfish (something the entire New Age movement has been accused of), exploring your own inner life helps you more fully understand and live in right relationship with other beings and your environment. If, indeed, we are all connected – and I passionately believe we are – it follows that what you do for yourself with the highest of intentions, you do for all of us.
For the past nearly nine years now, I have been blogging about the inner life. This year, I plan to carry on that focus in a more intentional way. Whether you are new to inner work or have been practicing for a long time, I hope that in 2018, these blog posts can facilitate a growth in inner awareness for all of us, the willingness and courage to apply what we discover in our daily lives as inspired action.
This journey, I call the Journey of the Fully Expressing Soul. It is a journey that benefits us as individuals, the people in our lives we know and love, the community of all beings, and our planet.
We are all in this together.
We all lift each other up.
What do you think, dear reader; are you in?
I honor your loving heart,
John
