Dear Reader,
Here we are, smack in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. The landscape is ever-changing, with some countries slowing up on new cases, while others are mired in mid-peak. We are all trying to find firm ground and a way to stay centered.
Can you relate? If so, here’s a tool that can help.
One word theme for the year
I use this tool every year. Early in January, I tap into my intuition to choose a one word theme to guide me through the year ahead. This year’s theme for me?
Commit.
I loved this word when I chose it, and I still love it today. When it first came to mind, I felt its power and timeliness in my life. I knew it would be a powerful teacher, guide and cheerleader for me in 2020.
Have you chosen your theme for the year yet? You’re not too late! In fact, now may be the perfect time for some steadying guidance through all the uncertainty around you.
If you did choose a theme already, I invite you to revisit yours today and see whether it still feels right. A lot has changed since the beginning of the year. If you want to change it now – do.
Choose your theme
This tool is simple to use. Just get quiet for a minute, with the intention of allowing your intuition, your own powerful inner wisdom, to inform you of a one word theme that would benefit you for the rest of the year.
Your word may serve several purposes:
- Your word can act as your one word mantra when you have difficulty focusing.
- It can represent a quality you want more of in your life this year.
- It may be something you want to experience this year.
- Or, it may be something you want to work on and master this year.
When your intuition gives you your word, you will know it. It may come into your mind suddenly. It will feel right, with no doubt or debate. Or, you may not get it for a day or two. Be patient if that’s the case; you will still recognize it. You may even find yourself saying “Oh, of course!”
Even if it does feel right, your word may surprise you. Be open to that.
Working with your word
Feel free to be creative with how you use your word during the rest of this year. Let this process be playful; your soul will thank you!
- Let your one word theme go directly into your heart; it works best that way.
- Make your theme visible, as your screensaver, a cover word for your journal, or a poster for your wall.
- Use your theme as a mantra, focusing on it for a minute or two in the morning before you start your day.
- Focus on it, even say it out loud, when you feel stuck, frustrated or discouraged.
- Don’t focus on it at all. Just let it pop into your conscious awareness whenever it wants to.
- Make a song out of it!
The list could go on, but you get the idea. However you choose to work with your word, do give it the importance it deserves. Yes, this is a playful way to engage your intuition, but your theme is your choice. Honor your choice (honoring your choices is good practice in general) and your intuition.
Your one word theme will have as much power as you invest in it.
There are so many words to choose from… joy, confidence, clarity, strength, faith, love, choose, act, listen…
I wonder what yours will be?
I honor your loving heart,
John
