Dear Reader,
I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving today if you are in the United States, and a “Happy Giving of Thanks” if you are elsewhere in the world. For many of us, Thanksgiving may be a little (or a lot) different this year. If you are celebrating, I hope you stay safe and healthy.
When we think of Thanksgiving, we often think of gratitude. But feeling grateful may not be easy this year, especially if you are forgoing a gathering with family, or if you have been directly affected by the pandemic in some other way. And if you are struggling during this time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
On the other hand, the events of this year may help us remember all that we truly can be grateful for. Having our rituals turned upside down sometimes shifts our perspective in a good way.
This year, Louise and I are in Shetland for Thanksgiving. Since today is a regular work day here, we will celebrate on Sunday. Still, I have been feeling grateful all day. The late Autumn sky has been beautiful. I have seen at least three rainbows, as well as a curious seal in the bay when we went for a walk at lunchtime.
I have written about Thanksgiving several times in the past here on the blog, perhaps because it is one of my favorite holidays. So this morning, I reviewed my Thanksgiving posts, and decided to pull a few of them together in a little “gratitude collection” for you.
- Happy Thanksgiving – 2010 This post shares what Thanksgiving is about for me, along with a few powerful questions for reflection.
- A Word for the Season – 2015 I’ll give you a hint here; the word referred to in the title is not gratitude!
- A Different View of Gratitude – 2014 This post provides an important reminder for us all. I hope you read this one.
Enjoy, and may you find a little food for your soul today in these posts!
I honor your loving heart,
John
