Dear Reader,
I had every intention of posting here on the blog two days ago. It made perfect sense; I had a great topic picked out, and the timing would help me get back on the weekly, Saturday posting schedule that I like best.
I did not post on Saturday.
It was all because I went outside to hang our laundry on the clothesline – it was a “fine drying day,” as my wife Louise loves to say. Was it ever! The air was sweet and fresh, and the morning light reminded me that Autumn was close at hand.
That soft light reminded me of Saturdays from my childhood, and going to watch the high school football games across the street from my aunt’s house. It called for an adventure.
In that moment, hanging towels on the line, with sheep watching to see if maybe this time I had food with me, I realized that I would not be writing a blog post that morning.
Instead?
Louise and I went for a long, leisurely walk to nearby Heylor, here on the north mainland of Shetland. We enjoyed the fields, the mist clinging to the hills, and the patches of sunlight breaking through on the surface of Ronas Voe. It was good for our spirits.
Sometimes it’s best to follow your spirit, even if doesn’t fit in with the plan. I have written elsewhere on the blog about why it’s so important to do this for yourself. That walk to Heylor gave me an opportunity to spend time with my sweetheart, which turned out to be what I really wanted most that day. I felt more light, more free, more connected to Louise and to the world.
Which brings me to today.
I decided early this morning that I would not publish a blog post today, yet here I am, writing.
How did that happen? Well, I followed my spirit again.
First, I decided to follow my intuition all day today. I don’t do that often enough, even after years of working with my intuition. I highly recommend that you try it sometime, both for the practice and for the magic it may bring you. Even an hour of following your intuition can make a difference, but a whole day is even better!
Next, I got quiet and tuned in. The sun was shining brightly, and the air was warm, despite a good breeze blowing in from the North Atlantic. I wanted to take a walk down to the beach at St. Magnus Bay, a few minutes from our house.
Finally, my intuition suggested checking my weather app. I could see that the sun would not be shining much longer! I was out the door in a flash, and down on the beach. The breeze felt cleansing, and the sound of the waves at high tide shifted my energy – all good for my spirit!
Not only that, but feeling the power of the ocean reminded me of the vastness of our world. Feeling that sense of large scale is vital to experience on a regular basis. It will help you hold a bigger vision for your life, and see new possibilities. Otherwise, you run the risk of your world shrinking down to the size of your inbox, and your internet browser.
Trust me, you don’t want that to happen.
In that moment, being cleansed on the beach, I knew that I would be writing a blog post today. I wanted to share the experience and the insights with you.
I hope this post inspires you to follow your spirit, and open to going where it might lead you. After all, we are entering a season of change, with the Autumnal Equinox approaching on Wednesday.
What better time to yield to the flow of life, and the wisdom of our planet?
What better time to expand your vision, and sense all that is possible?
I honor your loving heart,
John
