Dear Reader,
One of the best ways to become receptive to your intuitive guidance is to cultivate the ability to be in the present moment. This ability, perhaps more than any other, allowed me to develop my intuition at a time in my life when I had a lot on my mind – and thus, a lot of circumstances that could have distracted me.
But wait, you ask, what IS the present moment?!
Good question!
The present moment is often arrived at through meditation, although that is certainly not the only way. Any action you do consciously, will full awareness – running, washing dishes, walking in nature – has the potential to get you there. The present moment is a still point, timeless, with no sense of past or future. It is not stagnant, or passive, but ripe with potential. In the present moment, precisely because you are not concerned with thoughts of past or future, your mind is free of baggage, ready to receive new thoughts and move in any direction. In the present moment, anything is possible.
If you have experienced it, you know what I mean.
That mind baggage I refer to, the old fears, beliefs and habitual thinking, all interfere with you being fully present. While you are worrying what was said at work, you can’t be in the present moment (OK, there’s a twist that I will get to in a second) and if you are wondering how you look today you can’t be in the present moment.
When you are in that fertile place of pure potential, you have full access to your intuition. You are receptive; you have gotten out of your own way.
By now, dear reader, I hope you are thinking that it would be a good step in your Year of Excellence to focus on being fully present on a regular basis, in order to access that inner wisdom you know waits within. It bubbles up from a quiet mind both at unexpected moments as well as when you ask it to.
Here’s the twist I mentioned earlier – in actuality, there is nothing but the present moment. Think about it. Even if you are preoccupied with the past, perhaps thinking of a time years ago when you were mistreated, your thoughts of the past are still unfolding in the present. Same goes for your thoughts of the future.
So really… being fully conscious in the present moment simply involves letting go of trying not to be there!
When you allow thoughts of the past and future to fall away, when you allow the running commentary in your mind to take a break and chill, there you are. And often, what will arise is the still small voice of your intuition, in whatever form it takes for you.
Enjoy.
I honor your loving heart,
John
