Dear Reader,
If you have read my blog before, you probably know that among other things, I am a dancer – and a big fan of using dance to loosen up and activate your intuition. So I have to ask – are you dancing enough this year?!
If not, maybe it’s time to fit one into your day! Dance in your living room before your kids get up, or dance with your kids; they will love it. Close your office door and dance during your lunch break. In a cubicle? No problem; dance down the hallway on your way to the men’s or ladies room! It’s more fun when you have the potential to get caught…
A few weeks ago, Louise and I went for a hike on the Ness of Sound here in Shetland. Along the narrow road passing next to the water, there is often a group of aggressive geese. They hiss at walkers and prevent them from passing. We had to take a lengthy detour on our last hike because of those geese. The detour did turn out to be more fun than walking on the road, but that is not the point of today’s story.
Sometimes we are lucky and the geese are nowhere to be seen, but not on this particular day. We were on our way back home, and another couple was walking in front of us along the road. We came around the corner and – there was the couple, with the geese in the middle of the road facing them.
I watched, amazed, as the geese began to hiss and move forward in their gaggle, while the couple backed slowly away from them, and toward us.
No, I thought.
Not again.
I will not be beaten again by these geese.
I held my arms out high and wide, making myself big. It’s supposed to work for bears (is it black bears or brown? I’d better look that up…) but to my surprise, the geese marched forward, hissing louder and extending their necks forward, showing their white faces and beady black eyes.
Instinct took over – I began to dance. I moved toward them, doing a simple stamping march accompanied by hand clapping. Louise and the couple joined in.
The geese folded like cheap suits! They turned as a group, and silently filed into the water, with hurried glances behind them.
Yes! In your face, geese!
I cannot tell you how much fun that was, and my reputation was restored.
So dear reader, hopefully my story serves to illustrate that dancing applies in many different circumstances. Be creative and fit one into your day soon. It may just what you need to lighten up a little and allow in your intuitive guidance.
I honor your loving heart,
John

It’s funny that you would share this. Geoff and I have this little hop skip and jump jig we do when working around the house. It started with an overwhelming clean up, generated by nature deciding to renovate without us. At first my brain wanted to say, how are we going to manage this, as we have been restoring our 1916 farm (I know, for you folks in the Northern Hemisphere that’s a new house?)but then when I started pushing the buckets of mud…. Well we turned it into a musical and laughed about it. And yes, I danced with both a mop and a broom! Change of focus, eh? Lighten up! You are correct! 😉 !

A 1916 farm – that sounds amazing! I’m glad to hear you are dancing there… some of the best dances spring up from everyday movements – even pushing buckets of mud!

We also are watching Buster Keaton for ideas!

He’s the best! (Sorry all you Charlie Chaplin fans…)
