Dear Reader,
Today I am starting a five day “media fast.” No news, no magazines, no TV, no web browsing (unless I need to research a project.) I am actually allowed one hour of entertainment TV in the evening, and one hour of fiction reading before going to bed. Oh, and I can check email twice a day. Basically, I’m cutting down on the amount of information bombarding my brain this week!
I got the idea from “The 4 – Hour Workweek,” by Tim Ferriss. It’s a good book; I recommend it if you are interested in turning the rules upside down and developing your ability to focus on the most important stuff. Such as your dreams… the people, things and activities you love most… your cherished projects… Those values, plans, and states of being that will make 2011 a year of excellence.
I also recommend some form of media fast, or at least limitation, as a tool for developing your intuition. It can be difficult to hear that inner voice when it’s competing with daily sound bites. Further, if you are usually pissed off or upset by the news, you will need to deal with those strong emotions before getting to the still, small voice within.
Of course, I’m only on day one…
Some intuitive teachers suggest avoiding the news altogether, but I have mixed feelings about that advice. It depends at least a little on who you are and where you are in the process of learning to access your intuition. If you are just getting started, significant limitations may be a good idea. If you have been developing your intuitive awareness for a while, you may be able to maintain focus more easily as you take in what’s happening in the world. Being informed can allow your contribution to be more specific, and work in harmony with your intuition. Just be careful of the source, including it’s tone and truthfulness.
The bottom line is that you choose. You choose what to pay attention to, and what information to put in your mind. In fact, that may be a good question to ask yourself – “What am I putting in my mind today?”
Wish me luck dear reader; I’ll let you know how this goes!
I honor your loving heart,
John
