Dear Reader,
Do you ever feel like you are here for a reason? Do you have a sense that you are here to do… something, whether or not you know what it is? I have had this feeling for most of my life, and I do wonder about it sometimes. Where does that feeling come from? Am I here for a reason?
Well.
I am currently reading a book about visionary Barbara Marx Hubbard, “The Mother of Invention,” written by Neale Donald Walsch. Some of you may recognize him as the author of the “Conversations With God” books, a series that I loved. In “The Mother of Invention,” Walsch writes about Hubbard’s sense of purpose in life. He also speaks directly to the reader, saying that “Something is calling to you” and he refers to that something as “the calling of evolution itself.”
I love stuff like this! So here’s my question: If you could feel evolution happening within you, right now, what would it feel like? If the seed of an oak tree had our ability to self-reflect (who knows; maybe it does) – would it be able to tell that it is on its way to becoming an oak tree? Would it know that it is evolving? Somehow, I doubt it.
So can we really expect to be able to feel our own evolution as human beings, especially considering that evolution typically unfolds over hundreds of thousands of years?
Maybe that feeling of “being here for a reason” is the feeling of evolution itself. Think about it. That mysterious feeling that some of you have, sometimes strongly and other times only in fleeting bursts, may well be the conscious feeling of evolution working away within you!
Let’s take this a step further, just for fun and just because we can.
With the current research and discoveries we are making about the ability of our mind to participate in our experiences, influence our reality and make changes in our very biology – does that mean we are becoming active, conscious participants in shaping our own evolution? Barbara Marx Hubbard would say so. Neale Donald Walsch would say so. Many other advocates of conscious evolution would say so.
I know how I feel about that, but what about you, dear reader? Do you ever consider that our own evolution continues as we speak? Why wouldn’t it? Why would it stop with us, now, in our current form? And do you ever consider that you may be actively involved in that evolution?
If so, what would that mean for you on an everyday level, for the choices you make, the thoughts you think, and the actions you take? Maybe this is the year for you to really delve into that possibility, if you haven’t already, or delve more deeply, if you have. Maybe this is the year for you to really experience yourself as an active agent for change, not just in yourself, but in your species as a whole.
Maybe it’s time to really indulge that feeling that you are here for a reason and find out more about it.
I honor your loving heart,
John
