Dear Reader,
Want to save yourself a little agonizing (or a lot!) over whether to write and send that email you’re thinking about?
Put your intuition to work.
Sometimes if you try to figure out ahead of time whether to respond to an important email and what to say if you do respond, you’re in for a back and forth mind struggle that may consume hours. Can you relate?
My suggestion is to get quiet, and pay attention to how you feel. Do you feel forward movement? Start writing! Do you get a “yes” or “no” thought? Follow it! Maybe you see an image of “yes” or “no,” in your mind, or you see light or darkness in your mind’s eye… act accordingly!
Once you start writing, pay attention to how you feel as you write. Do you start to feel tense, or do you feel lighter and free? Valuable information. Are you being driven by strong emotion (potentially dangerous,) are you over-thinking, or are you detached and aware? The real function of these cues is to point you in the direction of how your inner wisdom wants to respond to the situation.
Once you have finished writing, check in. Is this email meant to be sent? Wait quietly for those same “yes” or “no” cues. I often get the feeling once the email is sitting on my laptop screen “go for it!” or “not now,” or “not that first part,” or “not ever!”
Sometimes that draft email practically shouts at me “For God’s sake, don’t send me!”
I always listen.
All you have to do isĀ trust your intuition! Either hit send, save, delete – or do a little editing and repeat the process.
A hint – the more I apply this process, the more frequently I write ready-to-sendĀ emails that say what is called for (often much less than I thought) and need little editing.
Sometimes, it even works for blog posts!
I honor your loving heart,
John
