Dear Reader,
This Monday’s post almost got sidetracked by the third installment of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy! Yes, I have seen the series before, but it was at least four years ago. When our family sat down together tonight with blankets, pillows, tea and biscuits, time pretty much stopped for a while.
So this week’s contribution to a Year of Excellence is a reminder about the beauty of the human spirit. I guess I also should include hobbits, elves, trolls and wizards with humans in that statement – but the most powerful impression I got from the movie, truly, is how amazing this journey of being human is. Our journey is universal, with core elements we all share – successes, failures, obstacles, occasional giant spiders – and through it all, some internal motivation that keeps us moving forward and won’t let us quit, even when we get lost.
How can you not marvel at every moment?
Every once in a while, of course, it helps to be reminded, with an epic movie, a spellbinding book… any great tale that reminds us of who we really are, with all our capabilities, quirks and inner greatness. These stories lift us up, renew our strength, determination, curiosity and daring.
These stories are really our stories.
If you feel you are faltering, losing your sense of direction or wonder, get a DVD, grab a book, go to a play or dance performance and get busy being inspired. You deserve it!
I honor your loving heart,
John
