Dear Reader,
Have you had a good laugh lately? I’m not talking about a smile, or a chuckle. I mean a good belly laugh that just goes on and on, possibly to the point of shrieks and tears. Well? If not, you may owe yourself big-time!
We have heard more and more over the years about the ability of laughter to release stress, and to heal. Most of us remember the movie “Patch Adams,” starring Robin Williams, about the doctor by the same name who worked with laughter in his practice. We are hearing more and more about laughing healers and laughter yoga, and are much more used to thinking of laughter as part of a spiritual practice.
Laughter is a vehicle for the expression of joy. Joy unexpressed can be downright painful. Think about that – pain turned inward. Working backward, laughter can create joy where none existed. Joy is contagious, and creates more joy.
With the release of bodily tension that laughter brings, and the state of joy laughter creates and expresses, we open much more fully to our intuition. We get out of our own way and escape from our intellect to receive guidance and ideas we might not have received otherwise. My teacher, Sonia Choquette, makes sure her students are ready, willing and able to laugh when she is helping them explore their intuition. Laughter makes you ready for anything, and that is exactly the right state of mind for receiving intuitive guidance.
We all know that people can also hide behind laughter avoid confronting things they may need to confront; nervous laughter, forced laughter, we’ve seen and done it all, haven’t we? But I have a feeling that far more often, it is a lack of laughter that we suffer from in our lives.
I also have a feeling I don’t really need to tell you this… I just need to remind you! If you can enjoy a good laugh within the next thirty seconds, you’re on your way to a much better day, and maybe a good intuitive inspiration or two. Thirty seconds, starting now – go!
I honor your loving heart,
John
