Dear Reader,
Now that we are into April, this time for me is about checking in as I create my Year of Excellence. The first quarter of the year is a convenient marker, and a powerful time to take an honest look at how things are going. It’s been long enough to have some results and experiences to reflect on, but there is still a lot of time left in the year to adjust if need be!
There is nothing wrong with making course corrections. Does an artist, at some point, stop to consider how the work is progressing? Absolutely!
Over the past week, I have been looking at how my experience is unfolding so far this year – without judgment. At least, without judgment of myself as a person. It can be a real help to judge whether your approach, your outlook and your actions are working, or whether changes are in order.
Based on what I see so far…
I love the work I am doing with my private clients! I also know that I want to expand my client base. I enjoy the work I am doing with kids and dance! I also know that during the next sessions, I would like to give them a more balanced movement experience. I am excited by what I am learning about myself, and how I am growing as a result! I also know that I would like to take certain qualities about myself to the next level.
As a result of my check-in, I am making a few course corrections:
– Today I started another one week “media fast”. For those of you following along from the beginning of the year, you may remember I did this exercise (only checking email twice a day; limited reading, one hour of tv daily, no internet news) at the beginning of January. I never reported on how it went, but I felt more clear-minded and focused after doing it – even though I blew it on the last night! Darn those “Merlin” DVDs….
– Today I started what Davidji of the Chopra Center refers to as the “RPM” approach to meditating, to help me meditate more consistently, and earlier in the day, before I move on to other things. “RPM”, you ask? Rise from bed, Pee, Meditate! No coffee first, no computer, no reading. Just get seated. I have to say, it was wonderful. I felt much more present, more grounded in my experience, and more aware of my feelings.
– Last night, I set an intention for what I wanted to accomplish today. This morning, I checked in to see if my intuition still was on board with the plan – and then I went to it.
Tomorrow, Louise and I will have our quarterly “board meeting” that I have written about in previous posts. Taking this time together helps us revisit our plans and dreams for the year, to see how we are moving forward, where we may be losing focus, and to surprise and delight each other with brilliant insights about what we see ahead!
If you haven’t already, dear reader, take a little time to see where you are in relation to your dreams for 2011. What do you love about your year so far (always a good place to start!) Where is there room for improvement? Are your deepest desires still the same, or have they changed? What kind of course corrections would you like to make? Make it fun, write down your questions and answers, let your self be surprised – and get ready for another exciting quarter!
I honor your loving heart,
John
