Dear Reader,
Often the guidance you receive from intuition is very subtle. That’s why it can take training and a lot of practice to “get the message.” A quiet, clear thought (your intuition) can so easily be crowded out by all the mind mayhem that you just don’t notice until it’s too late.
But sometimes…
Yur intuition is so clear, loud and obvious that you just can’t miss it. I call this “whack you in the face” guidance after an experience I had over the weekend.
Sometimes my wife Louise and I use a pendulum to help focus our intuition and receive yes/no guidance for questions. For those of you who are unfamiliar, a pendulum as used for intuitive guidance consists of any weighted object suspended from a short length of string. While holding the string in your hand so that the weight dangles motionless, you ask a question and, with practice, the pendulum moves in one direction to indicate “yes” and in another direction to indicate “no.”
Some practitioners view this approach to guidance merely as a way of accessing subconscious desire, with your hand subtly moving the pendulum in the direction of the answer you want. Sometimes this is no doubt true, especially for first-time users. But after years of working with a pendulum, I find that the approach can be a useful way of connecting with much deeper levels of intuition.
Back to my story.
Last weekend, Louise asked a question about an idea for her career, and the pendulum spun so wildly in the “yes” direction it nearly hit me in the face!
You can’t ask for more clarity than that.
Most often, the pendulum makes a smaller, soft circle either clockwise or counter-clockwise, although the size and speed can vary depending on the question and answer, as well as on how connected to guidance you are. But this time the pendulum nearly flew out of Louise’s hand, and we burst into cheers and laughter.
So dear reader, if you are working with intuition, go out there and ask for for some “whack you in the face” guidance and see what you get! Whether it comes in the form of a wildly swinging pendulum, a song that plays on the radio with the perfect answer to your question, or a vivid dream that hands you the answer to your question in technicolor – be ready and receive.
Seriously, don’t ignore it. Many times we doubt ourselves and our intuition. We get a message as clear as skywriting spelling out the answer and we say “Gee, do you think that really means anything?!” Don’t doubt.
And whatever you do, don’t fail to act on “whack you in the face” guidance! There is no faster way to shut down your intuition.
A final thought: your intuition is often activated by a sense of humor and a spirit of play. The more you open to it, the more obvious it gets. So if you get whacked in the face by your guidance, in whatever form it may take – don’t forget to laugh!
I honor your loving heart,
John

Great one I smiled all day!

Good, I’m glad to hear that!

Well to be honest I can really relate to this. The first time I used a pendulum it scared me, as the answer was so clear. But then again I’ve had to balance out trusting the spiritual path while living in a rational mind world. In the last 10 years I feel fortunate to find more of that balance, or accepting the ‘sense of knowing’ with spirit guides who seem to remind me….are we going to do this the hard way or the easy way? Now back to the pendulum …. Throwing it across the room it landed in my left shoe. My left foot swelled up during the day. Since I was in Bali at the time I was opened up to a whole new way of looking at things. Was my foot swelling up because of a non specific infection or going against spiritual advice…. when I removed the pendulum from my shoe and did an honoring ceremony with one of the local healers, I got better. She also reminded me, to quit asking for guidance if I wasn’t going to honor it.

Diane, you got brilliant advice from that healer! Thanks for a great story we can all learn from.
