Dear Reader,
One of the most powerful questions you can ever ask yourself is this one:
“What do I want?”
If you really allow yourself to stop thinking, and become quiet for a few seconds after you ask, you will feel something. You may feel a physical sensation in your chest, in the area of your heart. You may feel heat, or a sense of expansion, or a tingling.
You may also notice emotional feelings. Deeper than your surface emotions, the feeling may be steady, powerful and strong – or light as a feather, but unwavering in its clarity. You may feel a desire, or a longing that has been with you for years, waiting to be recognized. Along with the feeling may come a clear thought. In other words, you may get an answer to your question!
Want to know one of the biggest mistakes people make? They don’t allow themselves to fully stop and listen. Here’s the second big mistake people make: they don’t truly give themselves permission to get an answer. And here’s a third big mistake: they don’t wait long enough; they push for an answer. This one is related to not fully stopping and listening in the first place.
It takes discipline, patience, and self-compassion to access the wisdom of your heart. And then it takes courage to act on that wisdom, because it often calls on you to go against convention.
You can ask this question in a general, open-ended way. You might ask what you want right now, in this moment. You might ask what you want for this year, or for this lifetime.
You could also ask about a specific situation, one where you want to make a choice. Focus on the situation and ask, “What do I want?” Turn it over to your heart.
Your heart is the doorway to your intuitive voice.
How often do you listen?
I honor your loving heart,
John
